Jim Grace was a house resident for two years in the early '80s, hoping to become a singer/songwriter but became a Quaker instead. He studied Quakerism at Earlham School of Religion after leaving the house. Jim served on the house board in the early '90s including as clerk. He worked for Friends United Meeting in Kenya and lived there with his family for nine years; otherwise he has worked as a software engineer. He has served as clerk of Beacon Hill Friends Meeting, West Richmond Friends Meeting in Indiana, and currently as co-clerk of Portland Friends Meeting. Jim worked for PEPFAR (The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) for 17 years until he lost his job in foreign aid cuts in January 2025. He is now retired.
