What is Spiritual Accountability? What does this course include? Is this course right for me? About the leader, Viv Hawkins

The vitality of our meetings and of Quaker practice depends on how we help one another to be faithful as we support each other and the ministries and calls to service in our midst. Spiritual Accountability includes practicing a corporate process to ground a leading or ministry. Rightly ordered, practicing spiritual accountability has potential to enliven the meeting community, and help all involved be accountable in faith and in our work.

This course is for you if you are currently engaged with or beginning to use a spiritual care/ anchor/ accountability process, whether you are engaged in religious service or one of the people who is participating in its support. We encourage you to sign up with at least one other Friend from your group or committee to offer mutual support, especially in the field work aspect of the program.
Currently you will need to enroll for the full program (weekend and online).

What this program includes

This course combines a weekend residency, on-line study and reflection, and small group field work for people committed to the on-going practice of corporate spiritual accountability. Participants will learn and practice a corporate process to ground a leading or ministry, enliven the meeting community, and hold all involved accountable.  We will gather together to share fellowship, to learn from each other, and to explore best practices, most significant challenges, and growing edges of our care for ministries. Focal areas include sharing the depth of ministry, prayer, full-body listening, asking questions, increased risk taking when faithfulness asks, and weaving spiritual accountability into the fabric of our meetings.

Why: To increase our ability to hold ourselves and each other accountable to the ministry, to foster radical faithfulness to Spirit, and to better serve our God and our world.

Who: People who are currently engaged with or plan to use a spiritual care/ anchor/ accountability process including Friends engaged in religious service and people who support them. Two or more Friends from a group are encouraged to participate to offer mutual support. Separate clusters will form for ministers and committee members with opportunities to allow dynamic sharing within and across clusters.

How, When, and Where: A weekend residency combining worship, getting to know one another, dialogue on our experiences in and supporting the ministry, accompaniment that helps us care for ourselves, each other, and the ministry. Three months of online learning and community, supporting field work to practice the skills we are learning about. Facilitated by Viv Hawkins and other participants of The Way of Ministry.
