New Voices
a young adult speaker series
winter/spring 2007
In celebration of our 50th anniversary, Beacon Hill Friends House in Boston offers this new speaker series. Guided by the theme: Call to Ministry: an opportunity for today's young adult Friends to share where they are being called, a group of young adult Friends from New England have chosen speakers from applications from more than a dozen young adults from around the country and around the world. They represent both the diversity of current Quakerdom and the intense vitality possible in active Quaker spiritual lives.

About our New Voices Speakers
Kristna Evans - "What a Small Idea of God I Had"
- From Beverly, Massachusetts, and North Shore Monthly Meeting, New England Yearly Meeting, Kristna carries a concern for the challenges facing liberal Quakerism. This concern led her to the World Gathering of Young Friends in Lancaster, England in 2005, and has continued to work in her heart. The title of her talk comes from a messge given by another attender at the Gathering whose words Kristna still holds.
Raul Perez Chacon
- From San Salvador, El Salvador Yearly Meeting, Raul is an evangelical Friend with a concern for the poor and a gift in vocal ministry. Describing what he wants to speak to us about, he says, "The leadings in my heart are to speak about the intimate relation between God and human beings. I want to speak of the importance of having intimate contact with God: that intimacy which exists between a parent and child which is the same as between God and man. You can come to God and talk with complete candor, you can weep with him, smile with him, tell him what's bothering you. This is to say that there is no wall between God and Man except when we ourselves build that wall-- because we believe in a God who is unreachable.
Kody Hersh
- From Miami, Florida, Southeast Yearly Meeting, Kody holds an ongoing concern for the spiritual revitalization of the Religious Society of Friends through radical inclusion and conscientious exploration of Quaker heritage. Kody's blog, Unwavering Bands of Light, reveals a true seeker.
Cherice Bock
- From Oregon, Northwest Yearly Meeting (Evangelical Friends International), Cherice has also been part of conservative Quaker meetings. She is called to rekindle the fires of the early Friends movement, to lovingly and firmly call Friends from various traditions to our roots, and to listen together to where we're called now. Learn about Cherice at her blog.
